Meet the friendly staff at Sturgeon Animal Hospital!
,Dr. Wiens completed 3 years of a Bachelor of Science in Genetics before being accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (Class of 2004). After graduating, he worked at a busy 24-hour emergency hospital in Calgary and then completed an internship in medicine and surgery.
His fascination with ocular surgery and medicine took him to Las Vegas, where he attained an internship in ophthalmology. He grew homesick though, so returned to Alberta in June of 2007 and has lived in St. Albert ever since. He purchased Sturgeon Animal Hospital in March of 2012. In 2018 Dr. Wiens became board certified in Canine and Feline Practice, making Sturgeon Animal Hospital one of the few small animal practices in Alberta at which board certified specialists perform general veterinary medicine. Dr. Wiens is very happy to be practicing in the community that he loves, and lives with his wife Lorna, son, daughter, and two energetic dogs.
Dr. Miller completed 3 years of Animal Science at the University of Saskatchewan before entry to WCVM, graduating in 2005. She then spent 11 years working at a busy multidoctor practice in Edmonton. From there she found herself at a rural practice which offered a better balance. Dr. Miller worked there for 2.5 years before getting the opportunity to join our team, this also allowed her to be closer to home.
Dr. Miller enjoys spending time with her clients and is a great fit to our growing practice. She and her fiancé live in St. Albert with their two young sons and two cats.
Amanda grew up in Nova Scotia but moved to Alberta in 2004 to attend the Animal Health Technology program at NAIT. She graduated from the program in 2006 and has since worked with small animals in both clinic and shelter environments.
Amanda has been with Sturgeon Animal Hospital since the re-opening in March of 2012. Although she now works mainly 'behind the scenes', she enjoys catching up with our clients and patients, and still manages to occasionally utilize her tech skills in the back! She shares her home in St. Albert with her husband, daughter, and three cats (Mack, Tosh & Biscuit).
Leah grew up in Edmonton and stayed close to home for her post secondary education, graduating from the Animal Health Technology program at NAIT in 2002.
Leah joined our team in May 2012 and made quick connections with our patients and their families. She continues to take keen interest in anesthesia and all aspects of medical/surgical nursing.
Leah’s spare time is spent sewing, golfing, swimming and sharing her love of animals with her husband and two daughters. She shares her home with a collection of dogs, cats, and horses to keep them busy.
Stacey grew up in Lethbridge, AB and moved to the Edmonton area to complete her Animal Health Technology in 2005. Stacey came to us with her vast experience she has become a great addition to the team. She has a special interest in anesthesia, behavior and emergency medicine for all animals.
In her spare time she enjoys family time with her husband of 15 years and two children. They spend lots of time doing outdoor activities and spending time with friends and family especially at her family's local brewery, Endeavor Brewing Company. She also enjoys her side business of commercial and residential design where she gets to flex her artistic side.
Kerdessa is one of the newest and youngest additions to the team. She grew up in Westlock, a small town located north of St.Albert and attended Lakeland College to complete the Animal Health Technology program which she graduated from in 2021.
In the future Kerdessa would like to work with all sorts of animals big and small, but for now she’s having fun learning the ins and outs of small animal medicine. In her spare time she likes to go on spontaneous adventures and spending as much time outside as she can.
Leah graduated from the Animal Heath Technology program at Olds College in 2016 and has since worked in various small animal clinics in and around Edmonton.
Leah takes special interest in feline medicine, especially when it comes to senior cats and their quality of life.
Leah lives in Edmonton with her Husband, senior cat (Alison), and 4 guinea pigs (Tupac, Ethel, Neo and Nelly).
During her spare time Leah enjoys checking out local breweries, golfing, and hanging out with friends and family
