Services

We are a full-service veterinary clinic, providing both wellness and urgent care. Our clinic is filled with modern equipment and ready to serve you and your pet. If you don't see what you need or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Types of Pets Seen

We currently have limited our practice to dogs and cats, however in certain circumstances we may be able to accommodate other species. If you have another type of pet who needs care, please give us a call and we will assist you the best we can!

Emergency and Urgent Care

Emergencies can be things such as accidental ingestion of rat poison, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. Whenever possible, please call ahead to let the team know and prepare for your arrival, however if your pet is in immediate distress then please proceed directly to the clinic. Emergencies will be triaged, and we will attempt to see the most critical patients right away.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

General Physical Examinations

Of all the services we offer our clients for their pets, we believe this is the most important one! A thorough examination allows us to pinpoint diseases before they develop. Palpation of your pet from head to toe gives us the opportunity to locate external parasites, find skin masses, feel internal organs that may be abnormally enlarged, or other serious abnormalities. Touch is the most developed tool in our arsenal of diagnostic instruments.

Wellness and Preventive Medicine

Our focus is to help prevent disease and illness in your family's pets. Our goal is to help you minimize the need to treat and cure preventable diseases. Preventative medicine increases your pet's chances of having a long and healthy life. We accomplish this through routine annual physical examinations of your pet, proper nutrition, parasite control and through the use of a vaccination program based on an individualized risk assessment for your pet.

Surgery

We have two fully-equipped surgical suites, enabling us to offer a variety of surgical services for your pet. This includes spays and neuters as well as soft tissue, ophthalmic, and orthopedic surgeries. We have recently added laparoscopic surgery equipment to our clinic and are pleased to now offer these less-invasive procedures to our range of services.

We have state-of-the-art monitoring equipment to help ensure smooth anesthesia. All of our surgical patients also receive IV fluid therapy during surgery and appropriate pain medication. This helps to ensure a safe and comfortable recovery for your pet.

Dentistry

We offer dental work such as cleaning and extractions by appointment. A pre-dentistry examination is required before any dental surgery in order to determine what needs to be done and also to evaluate your pet's surgical health.

Nutritional Consultations and Pet Foods

We have a wide selection of veterinary pet foods and treats for both cats and dogs that can help your pet live a long and happy life. From adult maintenance diets to specially formulated diets, such as hypoallergenic and kidney formulations, we have the diet that will suit your pet. If we do not carry the specific brand of food that you need, we can often specially order it in for you. Please discuss your pet's nutritional needs with our staff.

Radiology & Ultrasound

In-house X-Ray and ultrasound equipment aids us in quickly assessing any physical injury or anomaly that may be affecting you pet’s well being. We can then quickly determine the appropriate course of action, medical and/or surgical.

Geriatric Exams

As veterinary health care improves, our pets are living longer. As your pet ages, we offer specialized examinations and consultations for our geriatric patients.

In-House Pharmacy

Our hospital has its own pharmacy, full stocked with the most commonly used medications for pets. This enables us to begin any required treatment immediately, usually before you and your pet leave our hospital. Beginning treatment as soon as a diagnosis is made increases the likelihood of a successful outcome

Laparoscopy and Endoscopy

We offer laparoscopic and endoscopic diagnostic and surgical services for our own clients/patients, as well as by referral from your outside primary care veterinarian. We have obtained state-of-the-art laparoscopic instrumentation and training from Karl Storz, the world leader in veterinary endoscopy and laparoscopy, to be able to provide advanced, minimally invasive surgical and diagnostic options for your pet. If you have any questions regarding these services, please contact us! If you are a clinic looking to refer a patient for a laparoscopic or endoscopic procedure/surgery, please click here.

Ophthalmology Referrals

Dr. Wiens

Dr. Wiens has a special interest in ophthalmology and provides a place for local veterinarians to send their complex eye cases for a second opinion and advanced treatment. We see appointments by referral from a primary care veterinarian. We keep in close contact with your referring veterinarian and forward all discharge summaries with recommendations associated with your pets eye care to them in a prompt and efficient manner. Sometimes further referral to an ophthalmologist (in Edmonton, Calgary or Saskatoon) will be required for very advanced cases. If you are a clinic looking to refer an eye case, please click here.
